Location: Negev desert
Client: Dead Sea Works
Completed: 1986
Team: Shlomo Aronson.
Conveyor belt design and construction:
Cable Belt, Camberley, U.K.

Because of increased potash production,
the Dead Sea Works chose to build a
conveyor belt from its new factory on the
Dead Sea to the railhead, 18 km away. To
keep free movement for desert wildlife
and hikers, the belt is supported by
concrete pylons and sixteen steel
bridges. Some of the bridges were
lengthened significantly in order to keep
the natural topography unchanged, yet lasting
damage to the landscape is negligible.
